In a tradition that some say dates back to Pythagoras, the 4th of January is the date every year when PhD students worldwide begin their traditional countdown to the holiday season.
The day usually starts off with everybody in the lab updating one another with what they were doing for the holidays and then the countdown usually starts at about 10 minutes after 9am.
“It’s only 355 days until Christmas and Hannukah and only 362 days until the New Year, so it won’t be long now….”, said President of the worldwide association of PhD students and ex-PhD students, Christopher P. Bacon.
“Most of our members spend the day gently sobbing and remembering undergraduate life when there were summer vacations and the world was full of hope”.
“Now there is only death and despair and experiments”.
